BERIGAN Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I just can't believe it!!!! From an email.... Alzheimer's Test- Count the "F's" in the following text: FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE- SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIF- IC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...(see below) Managed it ? Scroll down only after you have counted them, okay? Do you think there are three? How many ? 3? Wrong, there are 6 !!--no joke. Read it again. The reasoning behind is further down. The brain cannot process "OF". Incredible or what ? Go back and look again!! Anyone who counts all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius. Three is normal, four is quite rare. Send this to your friends-it drives them crazy Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 That is weird! Hell, it took me five times through to find the third "of" even after reading the answer... Quote
AfricaBrass Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Wow! I counted it four times and only saw three "F's". I feel so stupid. Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 That is weird! Hell, it took me five times through to find the third "of" even after reading the answer... Ok, how many "f"s are in JM's sentence? If you found 3 you're a Kenny G fan. If you found 4 you're a true Groover. Quote
Eric Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 got five ... missed that 2nd of ... Eric Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I counted it four times and only saw three "F's". I feel so stupid. Heck, even a genius like me only counted three. So don't feel so bad, Brass-man. Quote
medjuck Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Uhhh. I was going to say none. The question asks for "apostrophe f" if you read the quotation marks correctly. As is often the case nowadays there should be no apostrophe in this question. But enough pedantry. I still counted 3 the first time I read it. Great test. Quote

wesbed Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I read it 3 times and counted 4 F's. I still can't find all 6. This is causing me to want to go to Border's tonight and buy some new CDs. Quote
couw Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I see all the "F's" now - Does that mean anything? me too saw all 6... Quote

rockefeller center Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 6. Thanks for the ego boost. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I saw 3. Couw, do you think that because English is your second language that you are less programmed than those of us who have been hardwired for most of our lives? Quote
BERIGAN Posted March 29, 2004 Author Report Posted March 29, 2004 6. Thanks for the ego boost. You one of them foreigners as well??? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Hey, I'm a foreigner too even if English is my first language (though a mutant variation of the mother tongue). Quote
rockefeller center Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 6. Thanks for the ego boost. You one of them foreigners as well??? Yep. Not sure if it has something to do with that. My g-friend counted three; she's also a foreigner. Quote
couw Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 I don't think it has anything to do with english being a second/third language to me. I write and read it every day and don't translate back and forth while doing so. I wasn't fooled when someone showed me something similar in German either. Nor when someone else had a Dutch test like this. Weirdos like africa, rocky, and myself are different. We have self-designed animated avatars. Maybe that is a clue.... :rsly: Quote
JSngry Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Now wait a minute - "f" and "of" are two totally different words! Quote
Simon Weil Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 3. How embarassing. I think the explanation is right. In that I skim-read it for F's..and skimmed right over the "ofs". Mind you I was always bloody useless at English. Didn't speak till I was 3. Oh, there's that number again. It took a real effort to find the last F too. Simon Weil Quote
