I really haven't been an alcohol drinker in about 35 years, gave it up about the time I gave up smoking cigarettes. Of these I was a Heineken fan, and liked Modelo (Negro). Didn't drink the others.

I preferred dark, heavier beers.

The only lighter beers I liked was Rolling Rock, and that was for after a hot sweaty mowing of the lawn

I'm mostly a stout drinker as well. My current favorite is Gunner's Daughter from the Mast Landing Brewery in South Portland, ME. I typically get it on draft at the York River Landing, my favorite local pub. They have 36 taps, with almost all of the beers from local microbreweries.

I can almost taste that, stout or porter are my beer choices too

I think in the micro brewing era stout and porter is probably the most interesting area. I think milk stouts tend to be quite reliably good. 

@mjazzg - In case you're interested, St. Peters seems to have upped its game in this area recently. The former Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell has reopened under a new and stupid name and has two good ones that really impressed me: one nice rich stout and a fruity porter that was really a mild in porter's clothing.

Thanks for the tip. There was a time about 25 years ago when I nearly lived in the JT, had a 40th birthday celebration in there. Haven't been for years now.

Mild is a beer that I used to drink, usually as mild & bitter, in my 20s but haven't seen any since I don't think.

With you on milk stout, my current pub of choice often has a very nice one from Bristol but I can't remember the brewery.

I was a big beer drinker but quit drinking alcohol in 1998. Before giving it up, I had become fond of Belgian-style brews such as

Never heard of Blue Moon. Found Heineken OK, but there were many better import choices. The 2 Mexican beers are good compared to the US entries, but mediocre. The remaining 4 are awful; I always found Miller especially bad and wouldn't drink it at all.

Nowadays the US has so many local craft beers that there's no necessity to drink pisswater corporate swill.

I'm told that it does not sell. If you label a beer as "mild" it is commercial death. So they label it as an approximate style (depending on the type of mild) like "red ale", "brown ale" or "porter".

The porter at the ex-Jerusalem Tavern is very much in the fruitier mild style.

Although I am not sure if I still have the clipping, there were a couple of them that came out when I was in high school or college.

One was titled "Fido Holds Key to Nude Scene," where a couple got naked and kinky in handcuffs, only they were locked through a bookshelf. One of them dropped the key and their dog came up and swallowed it. Somehow they managed to call police, who freed the couple. The officer wouldn't identify their names, but quoted the husband as saying that he "felt like kicking the hell out of the dog."

The other was a story about a Fort Lauderdale police officer who came across a couple engaged in nocturnal game of Hide the Salami in a parked car. It turned out that the man was a local judge. I always imagined the officer when he recognized who it was thought of Pigmeat Markham's famous song, which was used in Laugh-In skits featuring Sammy Davis, Jr.
