I wish I had that LP. Always liked his playing when I heard him. R.I.P.

Yes its an interesting LP. After looking up his total output I was really astonished about the number  of groups he was participating in and those issued under his name as leader.

Cannot understand why he was not better nknown and  mentioned in various forums.

I've got him IIRC on an album with Bud Shank. It's actually two albums, New Groove and Barefoot adventure, which IIRC again was the soundtrack to a surf movie.

I first encountered him on a Flying Dutchman LP by drummer Jimmy Gordon, where he played a very nice solo on a Stratocaster. That solo would have been the only reason to keep that rockish LP.

I discovered him via the excellent Lalo Schifrin & Friends and then went on to check out some of his work with Chico Hamilton.  He really hit the ground running and had a heck of a career.  Thank you for the music, Mr. Budimir, and rest in peace.

And to think that a few months later he was playing with Derek and the Dominos, and he wrote and played the piano outro to "Layla"

This is the album I always associated with him as well!

I stumbled upon it just a few weeks ago on YouTube Music.

Does anyone know how to pronounce Budimir?

RIP.

I always heard it pronounced  Boo- di- meer, but I don't know if that was the correct pronunciation.

Thanks sg!  That's how I always said it in my mind, but recently I thought it might be "Buddimer."

I'd have said an English-inflected pronounciation is a toss betwen "Boo-di-meer" and "Beoo-di-meer", but anything else is out IMO (or would at least sound very odd).

I like the way his Wikipedia entry ends; after listing everyone he played with from The Association to Zappa, they say something like, "Oh yeah, he also played on over NINE HUNDRED FILM SCORES.

He's playing in a band with Eric Dolphy at this age?????????

That pic rather says he played with Chico Hamilton at that age? And Eric Dolphy played with Hamilton too. That might make a difference (style-wise). ;)

And at (almost) the other end of the spectrum, he played with Harry James at that age too:

Might have been reissued in the 70s as Bananas Equal or something like that?

I think you're thinking of Jay Berliner's "Bananas Are Not Created Equal". JB was like the DB of the East Coast.
