Larry Kart Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 Vividly recorded in Barcelona way back in 1998, with pianist Fabio Miana, bassist Chris Higgins, and drummer Marc Miralta, this is a gem that ought not to be forgotten. Stewart is in very fresh form, the rhythm section is ideal (this was a working group) and the program includes Mingus' "Dizzy Moods," Monk's "Pannonica", Freddie Redd's "O.D." and a nutty Stewart original "Scotch Thing." Peter Friedman Posted December 31, 2022 Report Posted December 31, 2022 Larry, I very much agree. This was one of the very first times I heard Grant Stewart. His playing here was so good on this CD that he quickly became one of my favorites living tenor players. Quote
BillF Posted December 31, 2022 Report Posted December 31, 2022 Yes, a very good one, not heard before. Particularly interesting choice of tunes. Both "O.D." and "Dizzy Moods" were in the "Now where have I heard that before?" category. (McLean/Redd and Mingus, respectively). Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 31, 2022 Author Report Posted December 31, 2022 Bueno Rollo means "good vibes." I forgot to mention that the album also includes a fine version of "Strayhorn's ""Something To Live For." Quote
