jazztrain Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 JATP box now up for pre-order: https://www.mosaicrecords.com/product/classic-jazz-at-the-philharmonic-jam-sessions-1950-1957-mosaic-records/ Quote
mjzee Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 Interesting that they're now up to 5,000 copies. Perhaps they're regaining confidence in their business model. Quote

sidewinder Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 Heck, I’m still working my way through the humongous Black and White set but I’ll be in for this one I think. Nice that there’s that tempting early bird discount too, which would go some way to offsetting shipping costs. Wonder when JazzMessengers will get this one in stock? Quote
scooter_phx Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 Ordered. Been waiting for this one since it was announced. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 I haven't pre-ordered in a while but this one is too tempting. I'm in. This is the first time I've ordered with their new web-based ordering system. I have yet to receive an order confirmation. Is this normal? Quote

I can see it when I log into my account. But I never did receive an e-mail confirmation. Maybe because I used a credit card and they don't charge your card until it ships? Quote

Brad Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 First time I’ve preordered in many years. I feel this one may go quickly. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 I've pre-ordered, as I have ever set for about a dozen years. Kevin, I think it's because you paid by credit card, I've used PayPal for many years and get email confirmations right away. Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 I preordered with credit card and received the confirmation immediately. Check your spam folder if you don't see it. Quote
Fred Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 First time a colour image on the cover, it isn't? Quote

Whereas Jazz Messengers have previously been a good source for Mosaic boxes as they deduct VAT for UK customers, they are now less attractive because of the end of free shipping. Cost of delivery for this new box is likley to be around €14. Plus the last couple of times I ordered direct from Mosaic I wasn't cherged any import duties etc. Quote

romualdo Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 just pre-ordered (credit card) & got an email invoice within a few minutes. Also a pending charge has appeared in my bank account Quote
EKE BBB Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) I'm having second thoughts on purchasing this one. Which typically leads me to click the "buy" button. Edited December 14, 2022 by EKE BBB Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 Am I the only person who prefers Granz-produced LP sessions to JATP "battles"? I mean, excluding my friend Mr. Felser, who couldn't be troubled to consider either side of Granz' musical productions? 😉 Quote
JSngry Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 Is Oscar Peterson the main pianist on this set? Quote
tranemonk Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 I'm a little confused about one line in the description..... What do they mean "passed over for a retrospective?" Does that mean some of it was released as a single CD? The discography doesn't make it clear if this stuff has ever been on CD before (and if so, which recordings). Anybody know or got any insight? A First-Ever Collection JATP 1950s Jam Sessions JATP concerts from the 1940s were documented in 1998 on a 10-CD Verve boxed set. But until now, the 1950s concerts have been passed over for a retrospective. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 I take it to mean that there have not been a re-presentation of the material of these 'fifties sessions, little of it presented again until now. How accurate that is. . . I'm not sure. 9 minutes ago, JSngry said: Is Oscar Peterson the main pianist on this set? A look at the discography on the Mosaic set (easy to do right?) shows yes, though there are three sessions where Hank Jones is the pianist, and three where John Lewis is the pianist. Quote

Yes, but with all the Lester Young, Ben Webster, Roy Eldridge, Benny Carter, Illinois Jacquet, Coleman Hawkins, and Dizzy Gillespie on the set, you will live. Quote
