mjzee Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 I've subscribed for a few years now. I like the immersion into the classical music subculture. I've learned a lot, both from the articles and the monthly discs. As a jazz fan, I'm envious that the jazz subculture couldn't support a nice magazine like this (although I'm sure they're subsidized by the British government). Any fans of this great publication? Rabshakeh Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 I briefly worked for The Gramophone, where the BBC Music Magazine was considered the enemy. Sadly over the last decade Gramophone has collapsed; always pleased to see that the BBC Music Mag is still going. Quote

mjzee Posted December 16, 2022 Author Report Posted December 16, 2022 Just received the December 2022 issue. The disc features Franck's Symphony in D minor. I find I have only one other version of it, conducted by Toscanini. Quote
Larry Kart Posted April 22, 2023 Report Posted April 22, 2023 I prize their recording of the Rachmaninov 2nd Symphony conducted by Edward Downes. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted April 23, 2023 Report Posted April 23, 2023 Haven't subscribed in a while, but in addition to the Rachmaninov, I return to these - Quote
mjzee Posted April 23, 2023 Author Report Posted April 23, 2023 This is one I have a "soft spot" for: Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted August 6, 2023 Report Posted August 6, 2023 I find Gramophone valuable, but I guess I missed its glory years. I do think BBC Music is a livelier read, and the CDs have introduced me to music I would not have sough out otherwise. With regard to a jazz magazine of similar quality, Jazzwise I think is close (But no CDs). Quote
