Hardbopjazz Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 When ordering a bunch of CD's how hard is it to choose which one to listen to first when they arrive? Most I already had on other formats, but still they're like new to me. Does anyone else go through this when buying a bunch of CD's? Just received Goin' West Never let me Go Soul Sisters Conquistador Sweet Honey Bee. Quote
undergroundagent Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 I think that you should listen to "Conquistador" last. Taylor's style isn't for everyone, and if you're one of those that don't particularly enjoy his music it may completely ruin your whole listening experience. "Never Let Me Go" is the best of the bunch IMHO, followed by "Sweet Honey Bee." Quote
wesbed Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 I go with whichever title 'talks' to me first. When I purchased my latest bunch of the latest batch of RVGs, I played Goin' West first. I don't know why, it's just the one I chose. It was, for me, a good choice. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 I have that problem whenever I get a new batch. And I love having that problem! Quote
Bill Nelson Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Just relax and try not to make a big deal out of it. The first album listen isn't the time for intense scrutiny, or applying it against all the intellectually analytical reviews you've stored in your head. Overly-hyped expectations are not in the Tao of jazz listening pleasure. Select the disc that matches your mood and 'cool it down'. Quote
vibes Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Good advice about selecting the disc that matches your mood - that's what I do. One thing that often ends up happening to me with new discs is that after opening up and playing the new disc, I want to hear something more by the artist or one of the sidemen...So I come back to the other new discs later. For example, I recently picked up "Sweet Honey Bee," and after listening to it once, I felt like hearing more Joe Henderson, so I listened to "Inner Urge" and "Basra" for a while afterwards. Have fun and enjoy the new music! Quote
