Ken Dryden
Nice stuff, they both arrived recently. One can only imagine what Jim Wilkie's tape archive must be like from the days of the Penthouse broadcasts.
Dan Gould
Clearly the agreement was between Wilkie and Zev as he doesn't seem to be putting these out on Resonance anymore. I wonder if he's even connected to the label nowadays. He's now got Jazz Detective plus he's worked with Cory Weeds on the Reel to Real label and of course some connection with BN. Ken Dryden
One two CD set has ten tracks, the other one has nine. The final track of the second CD in both sets is faded out. hbbfam
That seems like a lot of music to crowd onto 2 LPs. The Times article said 2.5 hr of music (total).
Ken Dryden
There is not two and half hours in either set. Here's the Discogs link I created for the 1963-1964 set: https://www.discogs.com/release/24945286-Ahmad-Jamal-Emerald-City-Nights-Live-At-The-Penthouse-1963-1964 The link for the 1965-1966 set: https://www.discogs.com/release/24945652-Ahmad-Jamal-Emerald-City-Nights-Live-At-The-Penthouse-1965-1966
hbbfam
Wow, the 63-64 would almost fit on one CD, the 65-66 easily on 1 CD. I thing the NYT article implied that there was 2.5 total combining both releases, but obviously that was a bit of an exaggeration. Thanks for the details. Can't wait to get them. BFrank
My friend Mazzy did an interview with Zev Feldman yesterday. Check it out.
Adam
Still working with Resonance. He lists various things coming up in the next year on various labels in this article in Variety this week: https://variety.com/2022/music/news/record-store-day-jazz-detective-zev-feldman-ahmad-jamal-vinyl-exclusive-rsd-1235441748/
mikeweil
Quote Next year we’re gonna be looking at releasing previously unreleased recordings by the legendary jazz vibraphonist Cal Tjader, and that will be a two-CD/three-LP set. Yeah!!! 😃
tranemonk
I'm very interested in this but I'm confused. I found a photo that shows a 3rd double CD set but I can't find any info - any where about the 3rd set. Why isn't it being released with the other two? Anybody got any info? thanks. Teasing the Korean
Thanks all! Lossless downloads on Qobuz are $10.99 for the first and $9.99 for the second. This may be the way to go.
thirdtry
I'm seeing a release date of Dec. 1st for the final Ahmad Jamal Emerald City Nights CD release (1966-1968) and also the Cal Tjader 2CD set Catch the Groove: Live at the Penthouse 1963-1967. Both are coming from Elemental.
