I think someone else recently mentioned this but I just listened for the first time to this 1961 Riverside album (now OJC) with Thad, Hank, Frank Foster,  Frank Wess, and Art Davis. What a gem. Three fine Thad originals — “Lady Luck, “Buzz-At, and "Ray-El."
Elvin gets his solo spots, sounds terrific, and is well recorded. Two trio tracks. A very happy co-operative date.

 I  am completely in agreement with you Larry.  Though I don't care for most of the albums with Elvin Jones as leader, This is one I do very much enjoy.

This one made little impression on me when I owned it, so I passed it on. I'm thinking I could give it another chance.

I’ve never owned or heard the date — and to be honest, I’m only vaguely aware of the cover, which makes me think I’ve scarcely ever been aware of the date at all.

Have to confess that the BN Mosaic is the only Elvin leader dates I’ve ever had, or heard.

And Heavy Sounds needs to be heard at least once.

I think this is one of Riverside's best-recorded albums.

Have a Japanese LP of this somewhere -- admittedly have always preferred the Blue Notes, Atlantics, and Impulses (not to mention his 70s JP run) but should dig this out to compare.

I checked it out on youtube and liked it. The cd is not all that easy to find!  Found a cd quality flac file on prestomusic for $7.50.  Fun album.
