Maybe it's the live setting, maybe it's the opportunity to stretch a length, maybe it's a good buzz and/or a good reed. I don't know. This has become par for the course in newer pressings -- stitching/non-fill. It is a bummer. Not enough of a biggie to return it but I wouldn't turn down a fixed version. But the tone of it sounds bad to me. Nevertheless the recording has much to recommend it and I'll probably end up getting it. Expectations about pianos in joints are wisely kept (where they are kept at all) on the low side of optimistic/the high side of pessimistic.
