Larry Kart Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 Anyone familiar with this Swedish tenorman who sadly took his own life (drowned himself) at age 31 in 1968? He can be heard on "Fredriksson Special" (Dragon). Trane influenced but he had his own voice. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 Yep! Intervall is a minor classic (reissued on CD in 1992 and on LP in 2015). To me he sounds a bit like Bill Barron. Quote
corto maltese Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 "Intervall" deserves to be much better known. It is a truly great album. Unfortunately Discogs tells me that the reissues of "Intervall" have become very expensive. I've never heard the CD, but the reissue on vinyl is of very high quality. It actually sounds so good that it now sits next to the original on my record shelves. Quote
Clunky Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 (edited) I think only Intervall was issued in his life time. The self titled album on EMI/Odeon was issued posthumously. His compositions were revived by a group call Sister Maj's Blouse - which has Joakim Milder on tenor sax, Bobo Stenson , Fredrik Noren and Palle Danielsson- two or three CDs were issued Edited June 14, 2022 by Clunky error Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 yeah, Intervall was the only one issued while he was alive. There are also a few tracks of his on that Oj Oj Oj soundtrack compilation, which was released circa '66. Quote

Sound and image quality is a little better with this one (below) too. I love when there's footage of obscure players like this that exists, by the way. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 15, 2022 Report Posted June 15, 2022 Well, the 1963-04-26 date is a bit more specific, so that's pretty believable. Also, I guess Henri Renaud stopped gigging for some time, starting in 1964. Quote
