barnaba.siegel
An email from one shop alerted me that famous Larry Young "Lawrence of Newark" is getting re-released on CD in Japan. It turns out that not only it happens today, but also it's a part of large back-catalog reprint From CD Japan: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2608?utm_source=MAIL&utm_medium=text-genre&utm_campaign=Jazz-20220405-genre-OTLCD-2608 [PERCEPTION RECORDS] Japan's first full-scale catalog reprint of the independent label <PERCEPTION> established by Jimmy Curtis in 1969 has started! Japan's first CD. The latest digital mastering. Newly written Japanese commentary. Supervision and commentary: Kazunori Harada. If anybody could track down other releases and paste it, that would be great.

JSngry
You are indeed wrong about that! https://www.discogs.com/release/5783030-Dizzy-Gillespie-The-Verve-Philips-Dizzy-Gillespie-Small-Group-Sessions Album index: Norgran MGN 1050 Diz And Getz Norgran MGN 1083 Dizzy Gillespie And His Orchestra Verve MGV-8141 Diz And Getz Verve MGV-8173 Jazz Recital Verve VS-68313 Have Trumpet, Will Excite Verve VS-68328 The Ebullient Mr. Gillespie Verve MGV-8352 The Greatest Trumpet Of Them All Verve MGV8386 A Portrait Of Duke Ellington Verve VS-68401 An Electrifying Evening With Philips PHS600-048 Dizzy On The French Riviera Philips PHS600-070 New Wave! Producer's note: This set contains all of the recorded music from Dizzy's working bands from 1954 to 1964 during his years with Verve and Philips. Concurrently, he toured and recorded with his own big band, with Jazz At The Philharmonic and went into the studio with various all-star configurations with such guests as Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Stuff Smith and Roy Eldridge among others. The big band and all-star sessions have been well represented during the CD, but his working bands have not. We hope this set makes up for that grievous neglect. jazzbo
You are wrong. These were recorded after Dizzy's tenure on those labels. GA Russell
I've wanted J.J. Jackson's Dilemma for quite some time, because Dick Morrissey, Dave Quincy and Terry Smith were in the band.

bertrand
Isn't Tyrone Washington's Roots also part of this series? There was some speculation these might be needle drops since supposedly the tapes were missing. Did anyone ever find out more? I have the old version of the Larry Young and never had any reason to think that it might be. Edited May 25, 2022 by bertrand
JSngry
There's a Shirley Horn record in there also, an interesting one.
Bill Nelson
Perception did have unexpected commercial success in early '73, when they leased the pop single, 'Dancing In the Moonlight', by the U.S. rock band King Harvest, from the French Musidisc label. 'Dancing' went to # 13 and the hit single undoubtedly caused a distribution problem for Perception. A hurriedly assembled King Harvest LP for Perception went nowhere and the band became a one-hit wonder.

Teasing the Korean
Well, I just had to pre-order Brother on the Run. I'll report back.
Rooster_Ties
Dusty Groove seems to have all the Perception titles in (as of just this afternoon). I pulled the trigger on Roots on CD (no surprise there) — but I’m taking advantage of them holding orders open to add more things and save on shipping. So via media mail, I should have my copy by about June 9th, or thereabouts.
T.D.
Lawrence of Newark sold out quickly, before I could reply to the "just arrived" e-mail. Now that DG is doing pre-orders, I'll start going that route. Have missed out on too many new arrivals.

Here’s a similar favorite of mine — Curtis Mayfield’s “Junkie Chase” from the Superfly soundtrack — in this extended version that’s like 3x as long as it appeared in the movie and on the LP originally too. Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine (and has been since I first heard the soundtrack back in college, summer of 1988 iirc).

He even wrote a letter to Downbeat about this, which I posted in another thread. I'll see if I can find it.
