I was reminded of that this morning when this album popped up on my shuffle playlist: That image (from cover of album released in 1961) is of interest to geeks! It looks somewhat fractal, and the term "fractal" was not coined until 1975. 🤔 Quote

Niko Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 it's an interesting credit "photo: Tom Jungman". first, I never would have thought that this is a photo (of what? not the British coastline) and second, this is Tom Jungman's only trace in the album cover scene... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Some of those Jazzland covers with abstract designs remind me of 'stock' covers that various labels used throughout the '60s and '70s. They are very cheap but some have their charm. Quote
mjzee Posted April 9 Author Report Posted April 9 Release date May 16: Savina Yannatou's fifth ECM album revolves around the theme of water in its many manifestations. Water as a blessing and a curse. A life-sustaining source and a mortal threat in the elemental power of the storm. Multicultural in their musical passions, and daring in their stylistic juxtapositions, Savina and friends also illuminate the connections between the traditions. Featuring Primavera en Salonico and Lamia Bedioui. Quote
mjzee Posted April 21 Author Report Posted April 21 Release date June 13: The Scandinavian project Arcanum brings together four artists all well-known to followers of directions in music at ECM: Arve Henriksen, Trygve Seim, Anders Jormin and Markku Ounaskari. They've played together in many permutations over the years, but this is their first album as a quartet. Compositions by Anders Jormin and Trygve Seim, a Finnish traditional and Jormin's arrangement of "What Reason Could I Give" are slotted into a program of graceful collective improvisations distinguished by lyrical imagination, reflective soloing and sensitive group interaction. mjazzg Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 That's going to be Nordic whispiness @Rabshakeh™ of the highest order, and I can't wait. I've wanted to hear Henriksen with another horn player for a while because it's been a while Quote
Rabshakeh Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 Henriksen is actually one of the names I've been enjoying the most on my icy Nordic deep dives. Quote
