clifford_thornton Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 Sad to say that the great Pittsburgh-born drummer Allen Blairman has passed at 81: https://jazzpages.de/allen-blairman-rip-1940-2022-2205011/ I've really been enjoying going through the Fondation Maeght Ayler recordings in their entirety and his playing on them is fantastic. He will be missed. Quote
Pim Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 RIP I mostly know him for his excellent contributions to some Mal Waldron sessions (Hard Talk, Touch of the Blues). Quote
romualdo Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 RIP Allen looking forward to listening to the Ayler 5LP set - arrived today (Australia) Quote
mikeweil Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 (edited) Very sorry to hear this. Saw him with Mal Waldron many years ago which was excellent. He had a monthly gig in Heidelberg with his trio and I regret I never made up my mind to go there. Then there was the pandemic and that was it. RIP Edited May 2, 2022 by mikeweil Quote
mhatta Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 RIP. His work on Mal's Hard Talk is memorable, but personally I'm impressed most by Joe Haider's Cafe Des Pyrennees. Blairman has very distinctive rhythmic sense. Quote
hgweber Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 That's terrible news. Hung around and played with him in Heidelberg in the 80s. RIP. Quote
