These two long titles where reissued as bonus tracks on CD "Blues for Lady Day" in 1993. I listened now to all four tracks and I believe they are from the same concert, recorded in Leiden, Holland Feb. 9th 1972 with Henk Haverhoek on bass and Pierre Courbois on drums. Maybe I'm wrong, but time and label would fit. Greetings from Vienna 😍😍 ....

The sound of those mp3 is OK but the lossless version available at Qobuz do sound better. Bought me the mp3 of Dewey Redman's 'Look for another black star' and Jym Young's 'Strings, Keys & Thumbs' when they were available from 1201 more than 8 years ago. And a few days ago I discovered the lossless offer and immediately had to get 'em. All in all I'm glad that the music is available at all. Sadly they do not include even the most basic informations which is rather annoying.

I admit I'm not a huge fan of Diamond Express however.
Hardbopjazz
For me, Mal was versatile. He’s was good backing others or as a leader. I enjoy Mal in live settings. On my Facebook group I have a private recording of him leading his group at the Vanguard. The band swings the whole set. https://m.facebook.com/groups/327260927975997/?tsid=0.11444042330453097&source=result
Joe
News to me; please pardon any duplication. https://tompkinssquare.bandcamp.com/album/searching-in-grenoble-the-1978-solo-piano-concert Searching In Grenoble: The 1978 Solo Piano Concert is a previously unissued recording of jazz icon Mal Waldron's mesmerizing performance at the "Five Days of Jazz" series in Grenoble, France on March 23, 1978. Waldron was Billie Holiday’s final accompanist, played on classic sessions with John Coltrane, Charles Mingus and Jackie McLean among others, and recorded dozens of solo albums as a leader before his passing in 2002. Originally produced by the legendary André Francís and transferred from the original Radio France tapes, this is the first official release of this music in cooperation with the Mal Waldron Estate and Ina (The Institut national de l'audiovisuel). The beautifully designed, deluxe 2-CD set includes photos by K. Abe, Brian McMillen and Raymond Ross; an extensive 24-page booklet with a heartfelt statement by Mal's daughter Mala Waldron, plus essays by producer/"Jazz Detective" Zev Feldman, journalist Adam Shatz and Ina's Pascal Rozat; and interviews with modern jazz piano luminaries Ran Blake and Matthew Shipp. Searching In Grenoble features classic Waldron originals such as "Soul Eyes" and "All Alone," and jazz standards "You Don't Know What Love Is," "It Could Happen to You" and "I Thought About You.” The 2CD set will be available worldwide September 23rd on Tompkins Square (TSQ5906), and was produced for release by Zev Feldman and Josh Rosenthal. credits releases September 23, 2022 Produced for release by Zev Feldman and Josh Rosenthal Associate Producer: Zak Shelby-Szyszko Sound restoration: Gary Hobish Mastered by Gary Hobish at A. Pim
Oh my…. Thanks so much for noticing! Mal did not record a lot those last years of the ‘70’s. Also: time to write a new review this might turn out to be a good year for Mal Waldron fans. End of this year or beginning of 2023 Sam records will release an unissued trio session by Mal from 1970. Now that was one hell of a strong period for Mal! Edited August 1, 2022 by Pim

clifford_thornton
as much as I think Cacophonic is a cool label, I wouldn't mind some archival Tusques with Sam Records pressing quality.

No idea… I assume it’s a French recording so there’s a chance of Patrice Caratini on bass. Excellent player he is. Guy Hayat or Kenny Clarke on drums? Or perhaps he was gigging with Isla Eckinger and Fred Braceful? He was playing with so many musicians those days. We’ll see. I’m happy anyway Edited August 4, 2022 by Pim

OliverM
So this seems to be coming soon now, and is a trio with Jean-François Catoire and Christian Vander. Really looking forward to this! https://samrecords.fr/produit/mal-waldron-rat-now-paris-70/

Sam’s also has (had?) a 5-sided 3LP of Nathan Davis live in ‘65 backed by the Georges Arvanitas trio. And I would have GLADLY paid (even at a premium) for a nice 2cd set of it. Same too with this new Mal trio.
Pim
Oh my…. 🤩 I knew this was coming and contacted Fred lately about it but here it is. This was a very strong period for Mal. Great compositions chosen. I don’t know the other two musicians but I’ve learned to know that with Mal they are mostly a surprise in a very positive way. I could see the disappointment for the vinyl only by some if that ain’t your thing. Sam is an excellent label though run with love and craftsmanship so this music is getting the treatment it deserves
