Teasing the Korean Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 Listening now to "Feel Your Groove" from 1971. Totally digging every track. Quote

I also remember his book of interview transcriptions, with Denny Zeitlin spelled Denny Zeitland throughout the hardback edition. I guess he didn't have any time or interest in reading the galley proofs... Edited March 18, 2022 by Ken Dryden Quote
JSngry Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 How have you never heard of Ben Sidran? If you age is around where you've indicated it is...hell if I know. The dude was ubiquitous there for a while Oh: Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) I knew Ben back in the early '70s, in Madison, where we both lived. Now we are friends on FB. Edited March 18, 2022 by Chuck Nessa Quote
felser Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I know him mainly from the early Steve Miller Band albums, but he did a lot beyond that. Quote
JSngry Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Here is how to connect Steve Miller to Andrew Hill. Quote
medjuck Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 IIRC (and I often don't) he was on a Mose Allison tribute record along with Georgie Fame and Van Morrison. Quote
bertrand Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Are people still hung up on this Nardis thing? The title has nothing to do with Ben Sidran. Quote

Of course it doesn’t, it was written before anybody heard of Ben Sidran. Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Had to google him. But if anyone had played with Diz, with Griffin, with Manhattan Transfer and with the Brecker Brothers ... he must be hot Quote
mhatta Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) I'm not really familiar with Ben Sidran's oeuvre, but this one is pretty cool...JG's blowing too. 1 hour ago, bertrand said: Are people still hung up on this Nardis thing? I don't remember where, but I read somewhere that Sidran asked about Sidran/Nardis to Miles himself and Miles was quite surprised and amused (but obviously it's just a coincidence). tranemonk Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 How come no one has mentioned his Talking Jazz interviews? That's actually how I learned about him. Loved that series. Guess it's available below... https://talkingjazz.bandcamp.com Quote
mikeweil Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 That's a very nice book they made from these interviews! Quote

That’s how I first became aware of Sidran, back in my college days. Not really sure I’d ever heard his name before that. Come to think, I can’t swear if I’ve even seen one album of his while CD shopping — though I’ve seen a few here and there in the LP bins (but most of my buying focus as always been CD’s, at least since I’d gotten into jazz). Didn’t he close his interview with Miles asking about “Nardis” and his own name? Quote
JSngry Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 First Edition 1971 Not everybody liked it! but some did wtc. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I encountered Ben Sidran first on VH1, back when they kinda/sorta programmed some jazz-dedicated programs(?). Perhaps it was BET instead. He struck me as a pre-Kramer hipster doofus and I am sure it effected my interest in the rest of his oeuvre. Quote
