Ken Dryden Posted March 13, 2022 Report Posted March 13, 2022 My birthday salute to him is airing right now on Wutc.org. I will post the downloadable link later today. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted March 13, 2022 Report Posted March 13, 2022 The last I heard he was having short term memory issues, though I believe he was still playing as of his late eighties. Here is the link to the birthday tribute that I broadcast earlier today: https://archive.org/details/timeless-jazz-3-13-2022-roy-haynes-97th-birthday Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 14, 2022 Report Posted March 14, 2022 Who does not have short time memory issues in his senior years ? So, does he still play ? I saw him live maybe around 2005, I think he was 80, looked much younger. The band was titled "Fountain of Youth". Nothing special, but nice....I mean the band. Roy Haynes himself is one of my favourite drummers, but with that 2005 band he was not so much on spotlight, I think it was mostly medium tempo standards.... Quote

sidewinder Posted March 13, 2023 Report Posted March 13, 2023 Happy Birthday Mr Haynes ! Just reading about him today in an old Downbeat mag from over 60 years ago. He was sort of a veteran even then ! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted March 13, 2024 Report Posted March 13, 2024 I believe he is retired from public performance. Quote
JSngry Posted March 13, 2024 Report Posted March 13, 2024 Hopefully he's comfortably in a respecting environment. Quote
optatio Posted March 14, 2024 Report Posted March 14, 2024 He was only 73 when he signed this ticket for me. The others are David Kikoski and the late Dwayne Burno. A happy Birthday ... Quote

Pim Posted March 15, 2024 Report Posted March 15, 2024 Happy birthday mr. Haynes. So much respect for you and all your contributions to the music. I wish I'd been able to tell people I played with both Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.... As long as it's in good health: many years for you to come please! Quote
