mikeweil Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) A reissue I almost had given up hope to see in my lifetime: the Dave Burns Vanguard album, with the tracks featuing him from Al Grey and Billy Mitchell albums as bonus tracks: https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/dave-burns-albums/55241-1962-sessions.html Edited March 6, 2022 by mikeweil Quote
JSngry Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Too bad they couldn't go ahead and also steal the Bill English Vanguard LP to go with it. Burns is on that one as well. Oh, wait, there were TWO Dave Burns LPs on Vanguard. Where's the other one? Has nobody in, like, Japan remastered it yet, is that what we're waiting for? Quote
mikeweil Posted March 6, 2022 Author Report Posted March 6, 2022 There is hope the two you mention will be the next reissue. You could e-mail Jordi Pujol ... Quote
Quasimado Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Concord Bicycle will be devastated ... Quote
mhatta Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 My favorite Dave Burns on Vanguard is "Warming Up!". I hope Fresh Sound would reissue it someday...(well, it's already available on Spotify, but anyway) Quote
JSngry Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Wow, and unsurprisingly, looks like somebody else has already done the heavy lifting for Gordyorgie, and not exactly recently. https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/products/8540987--bill-english https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/products/8516938--dave-burns https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/products/8533844--warming-up I like "Slippers" more than just a little! Quote
felser Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) 'Warming Up' is a 1964 recording, so outside of Fresh Sound's 1962-and-before P.D. availability. Some other companies like Enlightenment seem to have (or at least feel) the freedom to go up to 1964. Edited March 6, 2022 by felser Quote
JSngry Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Well, when 2024 comes, it looks like they'll have properly done digital files waiting for them! Quote
Daniel A Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) Warming Up is on Spotify. The cover says "Vanguard Digital Vault". The copyright note says "(c) (p) 2006 Vanguard Records, a Welk Music Group Company". Edited March 6, 2022 by Daniel A Quote
JSngry Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 You can buy the downloads. I assume the Presto site is legit? Or not? Quote

My understanding was that the laws changed to not allow past 1962, likely largely due to the work of a certain moptop quartet taking hold in 1963 in the UK and 1964 in the USA. Quote

So wait, then my dream of the trainwreck (from Aug 1968) getting a PD release from somewhere in Europe is off the table? (Half kidding, but half serious too.) JSngry Posted March 7, 2022 Report Posted March 7, 2022 I do think it perversely funny to talk about Fresh Dound "reissuing" too much of anything... Quote

Major well-established online retailer (they do have one physical outlet) with a focus for Classical music, a good alternative to Amazon. I've purchased from them a few times, no issues Quote
