Mark Stryker Posted January 16, 2022 Report Posted January 16, 2022 My latest Chronology column in Jazz Times has been posted. It explores the unique musicianship of pianist, vibraphonist, and composer Buddy Montgomery, little brother to Wes and Monk. https://jazztimes.com/features/profiles/buddy-montgomery-little-brother-like-no-other/ Quote
JSngry Posted January 16, 2022 Report Posted January 16, 2022 Nice article, and I like the sly "Little Brother" "Montgomery" trick! Quote
HutchFan Posted January 17, 2022 Report Posted January 17, 2022 Excellent article, Mark. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted January 17, 2022 Report Posted January 17, 2022 Mark, Thanks for calling Buddy Montgomery to our attention. His album on Sharp 9 has long been one I very much like. Below is another nice album under Buddy's leadership. Quote
relyles Posted January 18, 2022 Report Posted January 18, 2022 Pianist Isaiah Thompson released an album dedicated to Buddy Montgomery last year that motivated me to check on Montgomery. Quote

I was a freelancer working on contract month to month. My last Chronology column -- about bassist Israel Crosby's work OUTSIDE of the Ahmad Jamal Trio -- will be running in the April issue. Sorry to see the column end, but I have some ideas for keeping it going and parlaying it into something else. Too early to say more. Edited March 10, 2023 by Mark Stryker Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted March 9, 2023 Report Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) You column is/was a monthly highlight for me. Would be great if you could continue (then have embedded links to the tracks youu referemce). All I know is on a another forum I frequent the online obituary on JT for Wayne Shorter was posted in the rolling "bad music writing" thread and most agreed it was a possible all-time winner of that category.
