DIS Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 Sad. He seems just right for night clubs. Or are night club audiences today too busy talking and using their devices to pay attention? Seems to me that he leaves big shoes to fill. Who's in contention to succeed him? Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 I knew nothing of Frishberg before he opened for the Ray Brown Trio at the Blue Note (my first and only time to see Gene Harris in person). I found him delightfully entertaining - a fine pianist and lyricist with the perfect voice to deliver his ditties. RIP. Quote
Jazzmonkie Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 There's a nice Frishberg cover on the new Veronica Swift album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FHTui4IN4Y Quote
Peter Friedman Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 Saw Frishberg live 3 or 4 times. Highly enjoyable. Coincidently just played his Arbors solo CD within the past week. R.I.P. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) I enjoyed his music and his autobiography. The only time I heard him in person was at the Triangle Jazz Party back in the 1990s. I will try to upload a broadcast or two featuring Dave Frishberg to archive.org when I can locate them. Hoping that they are already dubbed from cassettes to indexed CDRs... Solo concert at the Rochester Jewish Community Center. Date unknown, satellite feed April 1, 1989. Teasing the Korean Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 Am a big fan of the Frishberg/Dorough/Blossom rat pack. I guess they are reunited now. RIP. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 R.I.P. Now I know what to take to listen to at work tomorrow. Quote

medjuck Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 I thought he did a great job both playing piano and arranging on Jimmy Rushing's Lp "The You and Me that Used To Be". Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 I met him here in Portland long ago, interesting guy. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted November 20, 2021 Report Posted November 20, 2021 Here is the link to Dave Frishberg concert at the Rochester Jewish Community Center. The satellite feed was April 1, 1989, so it was likely recorded in 1988 or January 1989. Sorry that the tracks aren't indexed, as I didn't do so when dubbing it from the cassette that I had recorded it onto back in 1989. https://archive.org/details/dave-frishberg-rochester-jewish-community-center-circa-1988-1989 Quote
Peter Friedman Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 Ken, did you attend that concert? I was living in Rochester at that time, and my wife and I along with a couple of friends were there at the Frishberg concert you recorded. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted November 22, 2021 Report Posted November 22, 2021 I recorded the concert from an NPR broadcast we carried. I have never been to Rochester. I heard Dave Frishberg one year at the Triangle Jazz Party in Kingsport, Tennessee. I am recording a Dave Frishberg tribute tomorrow that will air on 11-28-21. Quote
