Bluerein Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 For those of you who can't wait.....Universal Japan just reissued (almost) all of the music form this period on carton sleeve 24 Bit, 96 kHz remastered CD's. And this might be even more money and window throwable....... Cheers, Reinier Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 Jazzmatazz update: NEW Count Basie - TBD - TBD CDs (Mosaic) — the 1952-57 Mercury, Clef and Verve recordings Wow--didn't know that one was on the drawing board. I have a fair amount of that material, but I'm sure I'll hitch a ride down the Mosaic highway yet again... Quote
Tony Pusey Posted October 30, 2004 Report Posted October 30, 2004 So, how many CDs will this be? Quote

Checked last night & I have only 4 CDs: APRIL IN PARIS AT NEWPORT KING OF SWING W/JOE WILLIAMS ...so I guess there's a lot I don't have (maybe even more if they don't include the Newport concert--will this set be all recordings or just studio?) EKE BBB Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 FYI: The Verve Basie Mosaic will consist on 7 discs, with six previously unissued alternates and one selection that was never issued in any form. Only studio dates. Only big band dates, except for a bunch of sextet sides. (information provided by Chris Albertson on a recent AAJBB thread) And Chris Albertson will be writting the liner notes for this set. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 Not sure when the date appeared, but the Andrew Hill Select has a projected released date (on Jazzmatazz). Yeah!!! Andrew Hill - Mosaic Select (Mosaic) Sept, 2005 — previously unreleased 1967-1970 Blue Note sessions (Not that I'm counting on it by next Sept. -- but "sometime in late 2005" seems pretty reasonable. ) Quote
pryan Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 And Chris Albertson will be writting the liner notes for this set. Excellent! Quote

Shrdlu Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 Chris Albertson will be writting the liner notes for this set. Tup, tup, tup! I hope that they reissue Cal Tjader's "Hip Vibrations" album, as Chris's notes for that are great. Quote
Bluerein Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 Good first posting Fran!!!! Welcom to this board. Just received a mail from the master himself which also said it would be a 8 cd set. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 (edited) I hope that they reissue Cal Tjader's "Hip Vibrations" album, as Chris's notes for that are great. Yeah, it's about time the remaing non-CD Verve Tjaders come out - if only as LPRs or rather digipacks and (regrettably) without additional material. These are the Verve Tjaders not yet on US CD: Verve V6-8419 - In A Latin Bag Verve V6-8459 - Saturday Night, Sunday Night At The Blackhawk Verve V6-8585 - Warm Wave Verve V6-8671 - Along Comes Cal Verve V6-8730 - Hip Vibrations Verve V6-8769 - The Prophet (A few tracks from these were on cimpilations and "The Prophet" was on Japanese CD.) That Basie set is great news! I was close to buying the Ocium CDs ...... Edited November 3, 2004 by mikeweil Quote
Shrdlu Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 There won't be any alternates, Mike, I'm sure of that. But the albums would be great to have. Thanks for the list. There is a very strong case for "Hip Vibrations", because it is not only a fine Tjader collection, but also is a great straight-ahead jazz album, with a superb cast of major musicians and top-notch arrangements, mainly by Benny Golson. It wears well, too - I had the LP when it first appeared, and I have heard it countless times. If the old Verve bulletin board still existed, I could lobby there for its reappearance to the three or four people who used to hang out there. By the way, the current Verve website's "record player" still makes my computer crash! Quote

Hope you stick around here: it´d great to have some more old-timers at organissimo (as opposed to BlueNoters or RatRacers ... ) Quote
Shrdlu Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Right on! I'm about Blue Noted out, at least for awhile. I don't think I even want the label to re-open their board (seems unlikely now, anyway). Entire sections on "The RVGs", "RVG Vs McMaster" are not exactly hot off the press anymore. Quote
Fran Posted November 5, 2004 Report Posted November 5, 2004 Though some of this upcoming releases have been discussed in previous threads, I thought it would be interesting to resume the up-to-date situation (according to Jazzmatazz): Woody Herman - The Complete Columbia Recordings of WH and His Orchestra & Woodchoppers (1945-1947) - 7 CDs (Mosaic) May 15 — includes alternate takes and some previously unreleased material Tal Farlow - The Complete Verve Tal Farlow Sessions - 7 CDs (Mosaic) June 30 Art Farmer/Benny Golson - The Complete Argo/Mercury Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet Sessions - 7 CDs (Mosaic) Fall — will include 12 LPs recorded from 1960-62: — The Jazztet: "Meet the Jazztet", "Big City Sounds", "And John Lewis", "At Birdhouse", "Here and Now", "Another Git Together" — Art Farmer: "Art", "Perception", "List to Art Farmer and the Orchestra" — Benny Golson: "Turning Point", "Free", "Take a Number From 1 To 10" Gerry Mulligan - Songbooks - 4 CDs (Mosaic Select) 2003? — remastered from rediscovered stereo tapes — includes unissued "Stringtime" tracks Freddie Slack - Mosaic Select - 3 CDs (Mosaic) Benny Goodman - Columbia Records - n CDs (Mosaic) — time period TBD McCoy Tyner - Blue Note Sessions (Mosaic) 2004 Dexter Gordon - Mosaic Select: Nights At the Keystone (Mosaic) late 2004 Various Artists - Capitol Big Band Sessions (Mosaic) (doubtful) Erroll Garner - Columbia Sessions (Mosaic) (in doubt, due to licensing) Various Artists - The Complete Keynote Recordings (Mosaic) (in doubt, due to licensing) In addition There is the Johnny Richards set which is due early (?) next year cosisting of Capitol and Roulette recordings including the wild "The Rites Of Diablo" Quote

vibes Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 It says you save $116, but then it also says it's only one disc. I'm tempted to try it, though. Quote
