colinmce Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 I noticed that Black Lion Vaults has an album of outtakes from the 1966 Look For The Black Star session that I don't believe have ever been released anywhere else. Worth checking out. https://www.discogs.com/release/10200934-Dewey-Redman-Look-For-The-Other-Black-Star Should note this is only on streaming platforms, I found it on Spotify. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 that and the Jym Young Trio I would be interested to hear but I do not use Spotify. Can this music be downloaded? Quote

Can this music be downloaded? Looks like it can be purchased from Amazon and itunes. I'm not a big digital guy, I only use Spotify at work and in the car (no more CD player ), so I don't know if these are actual downloads or cloud-based or what. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 gotcha, thanks -- actually, our 2020 Subaru came with a CD player. No shit. Quote
romualdo Posted November 11, 2021 Report Posted November 11, 2021 As mentioned above it can be purchased (as download) from Apple or iTunes but only as MP3 files https://1201music.com/js_albums/dewey-redman-look-for-the-other-black-star/ pity about the lack of file format - find it hard to justify paying out that much for MP3 files If they were available in FLAC, WAV, AIFF formats, I would definitely be buying (this is a wonderful session & alternative material would probably be up to standard too) I normally burn my downloads to disc (usually AIFF format) & listen on my HiFi setup rather than listening to MP3 files on my desktop computer (Harmon Kardon "Jellyfish" speakers. It's a pity the recent Japanese Freedom/Muzak "paper sleeve" edition of "Look at the Black Star" didn't add this to the original album, making it a 2CD release just like the Dudu Pukwana one from the same series ("Diamond Express+6") that added previously unreleased Freedom material from the same sessions Quote
djcavanagh Posted November 11, 2021 Report Posted November 11, 2021 It is available on flac on Qobuz. https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/look-for-the-other-black-star-dewey-redman/0660652805226 I happened to be listening to the new Japanese cd of the album when I saw this thread yesterday! Quote
