Niko Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 a recent discovery from a fairly productive designer of awful covers https://www.discogs.com/artist/1896952-Steffan-B%C3%B6hle Quote
aparxa Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 Similarly, I cannot stand this cover, so inadeqaute to the wonderful music that it adds insult to injury: Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 yeah, "Cool Dogs" and "Two Oranges" are both tunes on the record, a collection of 50s Frankfurt recordings which I'm sure she never got paid for. Quote
HutchFan Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought of the Dave McKenna/Wilber Little LP with the "lettuce cover." Lo and behold, I opened the Guardian article, and there it was. That's gotta be the worst I've ever seen. Quote
felser Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 There are countless hideous album covers. But as far as being a disservice to the music, the 32jazz reissue of this classic album has always stood out for me: Magnified by the fact that the original cover was a work of beauty: Quote
mjazzg Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 Yet another opportunity not to post THAT Herbie Mann cover Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 Push Push has nothing on the Dave McKenna/Wilbur Little! Quote
mjazzg Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 I agree, the McKenna is wrong on so many levels but I still think 'Push Push' deserves a place in the rogues gallery Quote

Dub Modal Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 I can't stand Marshall Arisman's covers, esp for jazz records. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted November 8, 2021 Report Posted November 8, 2021 (edited) What happens when you have a cheap ass label, you hire the worst designer to create your cover art. I failed to read the guardian link or I would have seen that the first cover made the writer's list, too. Dave McKenna said about these sessions for Honeydew, "They sound like they were recorded in a toilet and I never got paid." No one misses Honeydew Records... Another terrible cover.. . I only have one album on the label, the Dizzy Reece LP. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 It was probably a poorly funded independent label that sank like a stone due to its cheapness and shortcuts. I don’t know who owned it or if any artists were paid. Quote
JSngry Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 They did four volumes of Elvin/Vanguard live stuff, the same date that Enja got one record out of. George Coleman aplenty. Skyscapes, the were called, IIRC. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 right, I've seen those and not picked them up for whatever reason. The ENJA record is quite good. Thanks. Quote
T.D. Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Likely too prosaic to rank on many "worst of" lists, but this one made a terrible impression on me: There are quite a few unattractive Chick Corea album covers, for whatever reason. Edited November 9, 2021 by T.D. Quote
