Marte Roling covers reissue LPs (Audio Japan)

There was an August 2021 release of 4 Marte Roling Freedom LPs (Bley, Tchicai/Shepp, NYC5, Dollar Brand) on the Japanese "Audio Japan" label

Wonder if this is a legit label (have only these 4 releases to their name) or is it similar to the "Cool Music" CD releases from 2014

I'm not sure they are really "legitimate" (well, in the good ol' days some Japanese record companies distributed Italian Joker LP/CDs as "legit"...)  but AFAIK the recent Freedom releases were produced by a company called MUZAK.  It was established in 2003 and already did lots of Jazz reissues (including Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. CD).

yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they were licensed via MUZAK via Alan Bates. I don't think the artists were paid much then for this series (Dixon has suggested the terms were pretty bad -- which is why his proposed entry in the series never came out), and they sure aren't getting compensated now.

Didn't some of this series (some of these items, even?) get done the same thing with a few years ago? I remember ordering some from that Barcalounger out fit.

Yes, I've been accessing this site & been buying these via Dusty Groove as CD Japan is not carrying the later series (they're only selling the first series)

Managed to pick up an original UK pressing of the Curson's "Tears for Dolphy" mono LP while I was in Hobart, Tasmania recently - my first Roling LP cover
