romualdo Posted October 2, 2021 Report Posted October 2, 2021 There was an August 2021 release of 4 Marte Roling Freedom LPs (Bley, Tchicai/Shepp, NYC5, Dollar Brand) on the Japanese "Audio Japan" label https://www.discogs.com/label/2263447-Audio-Japan Jazz Messengers & HMV Japan are selling them (not on Dusty Groove's site yet) Wonder if this is a legit label (have only these 4 releases to their name) or is it similar to the "Cool Music" CD releases from 2014 Quote

It was established in 2003 and already did lots of Jazz reissues (including Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. CD). Even if you can't read Japanese, their webpage will give you some idea: http://www.muzak.co.jp/ Edited October 3, 2021 by mhatta Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they were licensed via MUZAK via Alan Bates. I don't think the artists were paid much then for this series (Dixon has suggested the terms were pretty bad -- which is why his proposed entry in the series never came out), and they sure aren't getting compensated now. JSngry Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 Didn't some of this series (some of these items, even?) get done the same thing with a few years ago? I remember ordering some from that Barcalounger out fit. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 4, 2021 Report Posted October 4, 2021 yes, on CD rather than LP, however. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Has anyone listened to any of these yet? What're they like? A few have turned up in the UK on discogs. Quote
