T.D. Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 (edited) Noticed some Uptowns above. A number of their releases were recorded in obscure venues, for instance I don't recall seeing any others from The Flamboyan. This one's from the Lark Tavern in Albany: Edited September 12, 2021 by T.D. Quote
duaneiac Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 A couple of Bay Area club dates from Mose In Your Ear in Palo Alto, CA 19 Broadway in Fairfax, CA Carmen McRae recorded 2 volumes at at Ratso's in Chicago and one at Bubba's in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (it looks like a few people recorded at Bubba's including Ahmad Jamal, Sonny Stitt and Art Blakey) Dick Hyman at Chung's Chinese Restaurant Marian McPartland at Shanghai Jazz in Madison, NJ I would really be interested to know if there were any other recordings made at Dinkler's Motor Inn in Syracuse, NY Quote
T.D. Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 There's the memorable Tristano/Konitz recording from the Confucius Restaurant in Manhattan! Only one I know of from that venue. Quote
duaneiac Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 I'm not sure if this venue counts as a jazz club, but Recorded in concert in The Sculpture Garden of The Museum of Modern Art, New York City Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 Yes, the Pazant Brothers also recorded there. But it didn't seem to fit with the thrust of the original post's idea. MG Which put me in mind of this Jimmy Ponder album, Live at the Other End, which had once been the Bitter End. I always miss this looking through CDs, because it comes before his Muse CDs. MG Where's the Living Room? The Three Sounds found there way, so it can't be too difficult a question. MG Quote
duaneiac Posted September 12, 2021 Report Posted September 12, 2021 Ralph Sutton recorded several times at Sunnie's Rendezvous in Aspen, CO Are there more performers who have recorded at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA? Quote

These were (at least partially) recorded at the Regattabar: I think somebody recently posted the Kohlhase disc on the Listening thread. Edited September 12, 2021 by T.D. Quote

duaneiac Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 How about the Trident in Sausalito, CA -- Quote
Д.Д. Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 There is an excellent jazz club here in Vienna called Porgy & Bess. The sound there is excellent and some of the recordings made in the club saw commercial release: Quote
T.D. Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 The It Club in LA? There are Monk and Gene Harris / Three Sounds recordings, but no others I'm aware of. Quote

I understand that they no longer book jazz, but I immediately thought of recordings made there back in the day by Oscar Peterson and Tyree Glenn. Were there other live recordings from that club? The Three Sounds, Today's Sounds (Limelight) I can't tell you how excited I was to stumble across this LP back in the 90s or early aughts, simply because the other Limelights had odd orchestrations surrounding the trio, additions that only occasionally worked very well. So a live set of just trio was great, even if they did cover "Mohair Sam". Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Just listening to this and realised it fits in here. MG Quote
