colinmce Posted September 8, 2021 Report Posted September 8, 2021 It is being reported that the great man passed away August 29th. May he rest in peace. A singular musician. Quote
felser Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Really interesting musician. RIP. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Wow. Don't know what to say. R.I.P Jameel. Quote
JSngry Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 70 doesn't seem nearly as old as it used to...RIP. Quote

Pim Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 That is a pity. Same age as my father. R.I.P. Time for a reissue of the Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockey's. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 He never seemed to get the recognition that his peers and sidemen got, which is strange, because everything about Mr. Moondoc was great. I'd sooner listen to his albums than many of those who did make it. Quote
kh1958 Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Saw Jameel Moondoc and the Jus' Grew Orchestra one time at Fez in the Time Cafe. Bern Nix on guitar. Terrific band and music. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Got to see Jemeel a couple of times in Boston at the ICA's old Boylston Street performance hall. Memorable shows for sure. Quote

Was able to see him live a number of times, including with the Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys band. By the way, that album is slated to be reissued as an LP set fairly soon. RIP. Quote
mjazzg Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 I never listened to nearly as much of his music as I suspect I should have. 'Revolt...' was highly rated in the Penguin Guide I think but impossible to find by the time I realised i should do. Maybe the reissue will allow me to remedy that. Quote

Have you got more information? I will definitely pick that up. The cd version is very hard to find these days. It’s one of those records I feel a little bit ashamed about for not owning it. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Eremite are working on it. Quote
mjazzg Posted September 9, 2021 Report Posted September 9, 2021 Eremite, sound label. Look forward to them realising the plans whenever Quote
