sidewinder Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I remember seeing a BBC TV broadcast from the Rainbow around 74/75 of Billy Cobham's band. I think this was some of the material from the 'Shabbaz' album. Glenn Ferris on trombone, and Randy Brecker on trumpet, in the lineup. Quote
Steve Gray Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 I was at the infamous Zappa concert. Luckily I was in the first house because , of course , the second house didn't happen. Back when it was just the Finsbury Park Astoria I saw one of the Beatle's Christmas Shows. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Ah yes down in "the stalls". Saw the Dead there, 4 nights in March of '81. That first night, a midweek show, there could not have been more than 400-500 people in there, rare (musty) jokes and banter from the stage. By the last night, the word was around, and the place filled up. It must have been the doses. Spring '81 Dead was pretty good, I say. Quote
kenny weir Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Yes, I was also at the Spirit gig, or perhaps it was a Kapt Kopter gig in reality. Tony, the Spirit gig I caught had California, Cassidy and Larry Knight on bass. The support band was the Police. As I was full-on loving the hippy trippy likes of Spirit of '76 and Son Of Spirit at the time, I found the gig to be overwhelming volume-wise. It was very heavy and into the Hendrix thing. There was a live album from the show, but I am unsure whether it's this one: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=U...l=A43rc284c054a Or this one: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=U...l=A43rc284c054a Quote
Tony Pusey Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Yes Kenny, that was the show. Too loud "man". But Ed was always good to see with his massive field drums. I remember the Pölice (their second gig) in their matching grey jump suits like a group of Tellytubbies....This post has opened the dusty attic of memories..I saw a great show by Canned Heat (always saw them when they were in town,) supported by Harvey Mandels group,he had recently moved over to let Henry Vestine rejoin the Heat.In the middle of Fitos drum solo during Refried Hockey boogie both bands streaked naked across the stage which, ahum, caused fito to miss a beat (or several, you can imagine that this was not a pretty sight) causing the band in various states of undress to return to the stage about 20 mins early to wind it up! Strategic placement of instruments was only helpful in some cases! And Henry Vestine was magic, like Ayler said he looked like shit but boy, could Sunflower buzz! Quote
