Chuck Nessa
Probably only Chicagoans will feel the loss, but he was important in that city for at least 5 decades. This was posted by Lauren Deutsch on FB - So sad to find out that saxman Jimmy Ellis passed this morning. Jimmy was among the last of an era that included Von Freeman, Gene Ammons, Johnny Griffin and so many more that carved out what came to be known as The Chicago Sound. An alum of DuSable High School under the tutelage of Cap't Walter Dyett, Jimmy went on to teach and mentor the generations who came behind him. His legacy will live on in each and every one of them. hopkins
I read about an album released in 2016: "The Jimmy Ellis Quartet Live at Andy's Jazz Club in Chicago" but could not find it listed anywhere. Did this album ever come out?
