Here we go:

• Tenor, plays melody only. No Lloyd "flavor" at all unless you really WANT to hear it, and then, you gotta work.
• Definitely two guitars, one lead, the other rhythm. Could be Robertson playing the lead part, or could be Szabo doing what he was told/asked. One brief solo.
• Stinson a "possibility", but both Tony & LaRocca...wouldn't be able to tell, to be honest
• A totally unambitious, uninspiring effort by all concerned. Apparently whatever decisions Lloyd had or was to make about reaching out to a younger/broader audience had not been engaged when this record was made. It could pretty much be damn near anybody. Doesn't sound like anybody was having fun, or was wanting to be having fun.

Also a totally unambitious, uninspiring Beatles tune to select.  Something like "Every Little Thing" or "I'll Follow The Sun" would have held a lot more potential.

The problem is not the song, it's the performance. It just reeks of ok, do we HAVE to do this?

But let's go to a life in a world where only some things that happened in this one nothing happened in this one really did happen, and let's lose the lameass bridge, keep the rest of the song/record just like it is and add Cannonball & Zawinul on Wurlitzer (no need to add Roy McCurdy if he hadn't started playing "straight"-eights yet, Ringo's more than in there enough, Ringo FTW) to this:

That would be one hipass thing to do. But that's nothing like what Charles Lloyd, George Avakian, and John Simon did. Not ever close. Sounds like they were not ready to call it back home, this prodigal music.

Yeah, THIS. With Cannonball & Zawinul. And some place with real people, not The Club (although that would do in a pinch), and for sure not a bunch of stupidass boomer whitekids. Enough of people giving this shit more that is its fair due.

Cannonball had more than half a clue about what that music really was, deep down,, and I bet that Charles Lloyd got schooled about that while he was in that band.
