AfricaBrass Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Excellent news!!! Between "Conflict" being available in Europe, and also on emusic - we should definitely do this as our album-of-the-week sometime soon. Maybe we could pick this well in advance of the week we're doing it, so people have time to get it and spin it a few times. That's a great idea! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 8, 2003 Author Report Posted May 8, 2003 Hey, could we hold off on doing "Conflict" as the AOTW until I get back from my trip to the Pacific Northwest?? I won't have any Internet access for a couple weeks in mid-June, so sometime after that would be good (after June 23rd, to be exact). ( Not my turn to pick anyway, so I gotta hope somebody else chooses it. ) Quote
jazzhound Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 AWAKENING is equally engaging and better recorded. If only CONFLICT was recorded by Van Gelder so the drums would have been better captured. He knew how to record Elvin! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 10, 2003 Author Report Posted May 10, 2003 (edited) See the recent Teddy Edwards (R.I.P.) thread for discussion of an obscure album that Jimmy Woods was on as a sideman... Edited May 10, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
BFrank Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Thanks, Rooster. I didn't even THINK to search for another thread on this guy. I just stumbled on the album and didn't realize that it was a new re-release, either. It just looked interesting. ... I'm downloading both of the Woods' plus the Joe Gordon now ... Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Rooster Ties, If you're in Portland you can check your e-mail and this bulletin board at the Multnomah County Library-ew'll give you a guest pass good for one hour per day. Quote
BFrank Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Even more surprising......that Joe Gordon album "Lookin' Good" is sweeeeeeeeeeet! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 18, 2003 Author Report Posted July 18, 2003 (edited) Just thought I'd bump this topic up (since it came up in another thread), for some exposure, and to plug "Conflict" for future consideration as an "Album of the Week". I listened to it again a couple weeks ago, and was still blown away. If anybody doesn't have this one yet, then go out, right now, and get it. Go on!! I'll wait here... BruceH Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I think it was Rooster's "Album of the Month" for April! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 18, 2003 Author Report Posted July 18, 2003 just to inform you: it has not been issued in Europe Has this ever come out in Europe?? - meaning the new issue, with the bonus tracks??? Just wondering... -- Rooster T. Quote
JohnS Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 The ZYX issue hasn't made the UK yet. It was listed to appear at £7.99 back in May, I even sold my Boplicity lp, but it's subsequently disappeared from the lists. It seems to be more expensive on Amazon.de. Delays like this are par for the course for the British distributors. Quote
JohnS Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 As far as I know it's a straight reissue of the US issue. Quote

Just wondering... -- Rooster T. Is this available everywhere on the planet now??? I'd like to see this be an Album of the Week sometime after the first of the year. How about in January??? (Is it still on e-music too??) Quote
gdogus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) It's Album of the Week right now! Edited April 28, 2006 by gdogus Quote

Cliff Englewood Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 Was in London last week for work reasons but still managed to spend a small fortune in the Oxford Street HMV Jazz dept., and one of the purchases was this bad boy, haven't really got stuck into it yet but I am looking forward to doing so. There is one entry in Bruyninckx for 1989 which mentions Jimmy Woods. It's an album by Januscz Carmeillo called 'Portrait' on the Hep label. Jimmy plays on one track, 'Daydream'. It was recorded on June 3, 1989 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Edited July 8, 2009 by Head Man Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I only have Awakening but I like it quite a bit. The format-hound in me has been looking for Conflict and the Joe Gordon for some time on LP, with no dice. The realist in me is calling the format-hound an idiot. Quote

Chas Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 ...just talked with Martin Banks.... Jimmy Woods had, ironically enough, just called Martin. Jimmy now lives in Anchorage, Alaska and gigs at Sullivan's Steakhouse there. His parents were heavy into real estate and he inherited their holdings. Seems he must have been doing well financially I guess. Still an active player. Love to hear him. Today is Jimmy's 75th birthday . Can anyone give us an update on his whereabouts and well-being ? Quote
DMP Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Woods' brief solo on Gerald Wilson's "Portraits" LP is the high point of that album, but I think the notes in the Mosaic box credit it to someone else. Quote
