Rooster_Ties Posted April 25, 2003 Author Report Posted April 25, 2003 That sucks... Wonder why?? Quote
JohnS Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I hope it's not going to be one of those that gets overlooked or delayed for months. You can't rely on the European licensees, they don't seem to have any discernable strategy or release policy as far as I can tell. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 25, 2003 Author Report Posted April 25, 2003 Another reason to delay in doing "Conflict" as an Album of the Week. Let's see if it doesn't come out in Europe sometime soon (knock on wood), hopefully by June or July. Quote
BruceH Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 It's my own personal Album of the Week. (Plus all of Teddy Edwards' albums.) Quote
BruceH Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Does the vinyl copy include the bonus tracks? Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 ...just talked with Martin Banks.... Jimmy Woods had, ironically enough, just called Martin. Jimmy now lives in Anchorage, Alaska and gigs at Sullivan's Steakhouse there. His parents were heavy into real estate and he inhereted their holdings. Seems he must have been doing well financially I guess. Still an active player. Love to hear him. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 25, 2003 Author Report Posted April 25, 2003 (edited) OMG!!! I would have bet $100 that Woods was no longer playing, or possibly not even with us any longer. Wonder why he didn't record more?? Woods' complete discography (including sideman dates) isn't any bigger than Tyrone Washington's, far as I can tell. Edited April 25, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
bertrand Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Let's have a Blue Note convention in Anchorage! Quote
BruceH Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 His parents were heavy into real estate and he inhereted their holdings. Seems he must have been doing well financially I guess. Nice to hear, for a change, that a jazz musician is doing well financially in the latter part of his life. The same could not be said of Dupree Bolton, for instance, or about 2,000 others. Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 ...just a footnote...if you have any of the JAZZ SCENE USA videos, in the opening credits is a montage of clube facades. On one of the windows of one of them, in shoe polish, it's written who's playing during the week....on Thursday...it says...JIMMY WOODS. wish I could have made THAT thursday gig!. Quote
Peter Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Man I ca't believe it. I waited YEARS before finally breaking down and buying the Japanese mini lp a few months ago! Bummer! Quote
Peter Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 Anybody out there willing to burn me a copy of the alternate takes? Having recently spent $30 on the Japanese release, I think I've contributed enough to artist loyalties and record company profits. Thanks. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 30, 2003 Report Posted April 30, 2003 (edited) Does the vinyl copy include the bonus tracks? I have the 'Boplicity' UK LP reissue of this session. The track listing is: Side 1: 'Conflict' 'Coming Home' 'Aim' Side 2: 'Apart Together' 'Look To Your Heart' 'Pazmuerte'. Any info on the bonus tracks? and if there was any town in continental America that was most unlikely to have a jazz scene it would be Anchorage IMO. Excellent to hear that Jimmy Woods is still actively playing here. Edited April 30, 2003 by sidewinder Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 1, 2003 Author Report Posted May 1, 2003 (edited) On the U.S. CD (just released), there are alternates of 'Conflict' (4:50) 'Aim' (7:10) 'Look To Your Heart' (5:50) For a total of nearly 18 extra minutes of music. Edited May 1, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 2, 2003 Author Report Posted May 2, 2003 Man I ca't believe it. I waited YEARS before finally breaking down and buying the Japanese mini lp a few months ago! Bummer! By the way, I'm gonna set Peter up with a burn of the bonus tracks. Pete - it might take a week or so for me to get to it, but I'll see that you get these... Quote
John B Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 for those of you on emusic, they have Awakening! available for download. After reading this thread I really hope they add Conflict soon. Quote
John B Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 emusic now has Conflict!, with bonus tracks. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 emusic now has Conflict!, with bonus tracks. Whoo hoo!!!! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I've just finished listening to this album for the first time. I love it!!!! I downloaded it from emusic.com, but I need to buy a copy of this. Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 i can't find this on emusic ANYWHERE??!! How are you finding it there? Quote
AfricaBrass Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 I couldn't find it for a while. I found it two ways: 1) Search under album name - conflict 2) In the jazz section, check the new tab. It was there when I looked a little while ago Good luck! :rsmile: Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 8, 2003 Author Report Posted May 8, 2003 Excellent news!!! Between "Conflict" being available in Europe, and also on emusic - we should definitely do this as our album-of-the-week sometime soon. Maybe we could pick this well in advance of the week we're doing it, so people have time to get it and spin it a few times. Quote
