Dan Gould Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Good story, Ray! I think that experience is repeated many times, "virtually," through the first CDR trades board members make with each other. In a way we may feel like we "know" each other more than you did with this guy, and of course I'm not talking about physically parting with valuable CDs, but just blindly mailing out discs in expectation of the receipt of others in return. But still, its nice to know that, face-to-face or don't know you from Adam, we can still make connections with people. Or, as I believe Lon once said to me, "jazzers are the best!" Quote
Noj Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I'm hoping RDK gave better treatment to the Mosaics he borrowed! Quote
BruceH Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 No friggin' way man. I'll make a cdr but no. Somebody I know who's interested in jazz wanted to borrow a couple of Jimmy Smith TOCJs to cdr them. After explaining why not and that I'd make them a cdr, they sort of accepted it but couldn't understand it. Nothing like that leaves these hands. He couldn't understand it? This is the way I look at it: I'm very careful with my CD's (and LP's) but once in a while I've dropped one of the damn things. (DOH!!!) What if that happened while I was borrowing someone's OOP Mosaic, or they were borrowing mine??? Sending or receiving CDr's means never having to say you're sorry. (...But that WAS a cool story RDK. You are one lucky guy.) Quote
RDK Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I'm hoping RDK gave better treatment to the Mosaics he borrowed! To add: I specifically remember him handing me the Hall/Johnson/DeParis set right after it sold for some ridiculous amount on Ebay - over $500 or something like that. In fact, the reason he loaned me that one at that time was because he saw what it was going for on Ebay and was hoping to sell it while the fire was still hot. But he wanted me to make a copy of it for myself before he unloaded it! I couldn't believe it. I was so worried about losing the discs that I drove straight home after our meeting and didn't stop (as I had planned) to do some CD shopping on the way. That pic i posted above is funny and, obviously, doesn't represent how I treat my own collection (or the discs that I borrow ) but it is a fact that some people do treat their CDs like that - though I find that jazz fans, like most obsessive music collectors, are pretty anal about how they store and handle their possessions. For the most part I believe (or at least would like to believe) that anyone who even knows about Mosaic knows about their collectibilty and general worth and would handle the discs with the care and respect they deserve. marcoliv Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 None of my friends have any idea what a Mosaic is...so I'm safe same as me!! i don't have to think about it so..... Quote
