HutchFan Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 If you were to make a list of your "desert-island discs" from the 1980s, what would they be? The only rules: - The music must have been recorded between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989. - Release dates don't matter; archival recordings are fine, as long as they were made in the 1980s. List however many records you wish. One or ten or fifty. To get the ball rolling, here are five that would go on my list: - Andrew Hill - Shades (Soul Note) - Bobby Hutcherson - Farewell Keystone (Theresa/Evidence) - James Newton - Luella (Gramavision) - Quest - Quest II (Storyville) - Jack Walrath - Wholly Trinity (Muse) Quote
felser Posted February 12, 2021 Report Posted February 12, 2021 Off the top of my head (will add others later, I'm sure): Billy Harper - Destiny is Yours Woody Shaw - Lotus Flower Pharoah Sanders - Africa Mingus Dynasty - Live at Montreux Quote

I have a friend who wants to collaborate with me on an 80s jazz project. But I'm not anywhere near ready to begin yet. At this point, we're just kicking around ideas. But I think something will happen eventually. So what would be on YOUR 80s jazz list, Rab? Quote

duaneiac Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 Stan Getz was on a roll in the 1980's. Each of these albums is worthy of mention -- 15 minutes ago, soulpope said: Released 1990 ;-) .... fabulous platter though ....
