Jim Duckworth Posted January 24, 2021 Report Posted January 24, 2021 Love that guy. I've been digging him with Horace Henderson's band from just before he joined Duke. Quote
JSngry Posted January 24, 2021 Author Report Posted January 24, 2021 Still waiting in vain for any recorded evidence of that 1948 mini-tour of Ellington, Nance, and Kay Davis...Ray Nance could almost literally do it all. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted January 24, 2021 Report Posted January 24, 2021 Ray Nance was a joy every time he was featured with Duke Ellington. The Fourth Edition of W.E. Timmer's Ellingtonia discography only show recordings being made between November 6 and December 28, 1948, none with the setting JSngry mentioned. I have long wondered about this mini-tour myself. I just stumbled on this CD listing, I wasn't familiar with it at all : I have had this LP for years, another gem: Another one that I picked up some time ago: Another release I just ran across, recorded in 1946. Now the challenge is to find a US seller... Quote

jazzbo Posted January 25, 2021 Report Posted January 25, 2021 Ray Nance was one of my favorite instrumentalists and vocalists of the Ellington world. Quote
