Larry Kart Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Marshall Allen (in his 90s!!) leading the Sun Ra Arkestra. rec. 2020, in terrific sound and beautifully played. The freshness, the intensity, the sheer varied accomplishment and sense of control without the least feel of holding back. Are all the electronics Allen’s doing via EVI? If so, praise to him. And the vocals are so good. Due no doubt to lack of attention on my part, I had no idea that the latter days of Sun Ra could have been incubating anything like this. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 I saw the Arkestra last right before COVID hit the US, and they sounded tremendous. This was at Town Hall in New York. I'll have to pick this up! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) Marshall is a wonder. Last time I was with him. Edited January 20, 2021 by Chuck Nessa Quote

David Ayers Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Cool. No sammich jokes from me. Quote
mjazzg Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Shouldn't the thread title be changed to Sun Ra Arkestra's 'Swirling'? Allen may be the leader but it's certainly not credited to him anywhere else I've seen. Quote
relyles Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Just received yesterday. Looking forward to listening. Quote
