Daniel A
Does anyone here (Lon? 🙂) have an opinion on the sound of the Mode for Joe session on the Mosaic set compared to the UCCQ-5120 release (from the then praised 75 year celebration series where the alternate take of the title track appeared for the first time)? jazzbo
They both sound good Daniel. The Mosaic version sounds a bit "flatter." The UCCQ sounds a bit more "lively."
Daniel A
Thanks, Lon. I have all of the material except the Mode for Joe alternate take and am trying to decide which way to go. The Japanese single CD would be "easier" for me in some respects.
jazzbo
Understood. I like having this box set with all the mastering by one engineer--before that I had a variety of American and Japanese series and really no two discs had the same mastering style. But I'm not averse to having duplicates or buying things again and again--I trained myself carefully over the years! And books, recordings, stereo equipment and instruments became my only real mad money vices some thirty years ago.

The Joe Henderson and Hank 60s material is particularly close to my heart so I bought the respective Mosaics. I didn't do the same for the Hubbard set because I felt some of the sessions were a little weak to my mind..
adh1907
I too have sprung for this, having been impressed by the remastering on the Sonny Clark box set.  On its way from Barcelona.
adh1907
Remastering on this box set is beautiful. Recommended.
adh1907
Anyone else notice the blip on El Barrio about 4.35 in, at the end of Joe’s solo. Like someone has bolted together two different takes. Though there are no alternate takes here. It’s there on the RVG CD issue too though more noticeable on the Mosaic. Wonder if it’s on the original LP.
