JSngry
I don't readily find a reissue of this? So...Ross Russell and Moses Asch both recording John Cage...do tell....
Dan Gould
You'll have to explain this straight line between 4'33" and the man who brought squacks and squeaks to jazz?
JSngry
It's a "degree of separation" thing. Moses Asch released the very first JATP record, and then made a record of John Cage music on his Disc label. So, like straight line from Jacquet to Asch to Cage. I think it's delightfully hilarious! JSngry
I'm looking for some kind - ANY kind - of a reissue of this thing. Anybody no of one, of ANY kind? It's got Maro Ajemian!
Chuck Nessa
Just want to point out the pianist William Masselos recorded the Ives sonata Jim posted earlier, and Maro's sister Anahid was the wife of George Avakian. Masselos had another go at the Ives sonata in 1966 - both included here
HutchFan
Sorry, no insight on a reissue of the Cage pieces on Disc. But, for what it's worth, I think Masselos' second recording of Ives' First Sonata (for RCA) is even better than his first one (for Columbia). JSngry
I am getting all up in that box this week. Ordered it during the summer(?), getting to it now. Ok my...one copy of THIS one for $550.00 I see lots of different types of music on Disc, but only these two are "classical". And both involve Cage + Ajemian. Ajemian did the OG SonatasĀ and Interludes on Dial, which is still my favorite. so...I want to hear these Disc records...somehow. Surely they're alive somewhere. JSngry
did the Disc catalog all go over into Folkways? Because if so, then the Cage stuff would now be with the Smithsonian?
