Some of the Columbia material on "Of Cabbages and Kings" and "The Ark", done after their hitmaking days were over, was pretty adventurous. Interestingly, they stiffed in England, were only successful in the USA. The World Artists hits are lovely. Their first for Coumbia, "Before and After" is surprisingly sophisticated, couldn't have been easy to sing. In style and quality, seems more like a Bacharach/David song, but was actually written by Van McCoy, and is a long way (up) from "The Hustle". McCoy did a lot of good work in the 60's. I bought the 45 of Willow Weep for Me, but returned it because of what sounded to me like a defective decrease in volume midway through. I eventually bought their Capitol Best of album.
