I think they tried to get rid of it (without looking closer or even inside) as fast as they could. Because an unattended package at an airport can spell BIG trouble once the anti-terrorism machinery gets moving ... Understandable reaction if you are way down in the pecking line and have nothing to gain in your poorly paid cleaning job anyway So the bottom line is that the owner who "left" it at the airport was way worse than careless.
