Schiff's ECM recordings of Schubert (on a period instrument) have been a revelation for me this year. His essay in the liner notes is well worth reading.

There's a subtlety to the fortepiano that made Schubert new to me. It was as if listening to him for the first time.

Believe its revelatory finding an entrance point to Schubert .... for alternate views look for Valery Afanassiev, Sviatoslav Richter, Richard Goode, Karl Betz, Radu Lupu and Gilbert Schuchter to name a few .... enjoy !!

It was revelatory because I've listened to Schubert for years, but Schiff's playing made it new to me.

Interesting .... could you name your other Schubert Solo Piano faves performers/recordings.... ?
