Dmitry Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) Over 1000 restaurants have permanently closed in NYC since the lockdown in March. BFrank Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 I was only there a few times, but I liked the room and the sound was very good, too. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 I only made it to the Jazz Standard 3 or 4 times, but I always had a great time there. Quote
Patrick Posted December 6, 2020 Report Posted December 6, 2020 Only a few times for me as well. I've really enjoyed Maria Schneider holding court there (w family and friends) during Thanksgiving week. Quote

Most of my neighborhood's bars and coffee shops/small restaurants are done and will not reopen. Some of these were particular favorites that served the neighborhood on a real first-name basis, leaving friends of mine without jobs. Much of this could have been subsidized for survival, but I guess that's another discussion for another thread. Quote
bluesForBartok Posted December 11, 2020 Report Posted December 11, 2020 (edited) Such a great club. Really sad to see it go. I worked for Don Sickler years ago and helped him assemble a couple of shows at the Standard. I remember Billy introducing the band members by saying what subway stop in Brooklyn they lived near. Hmmm...except I couldn't have been there January 19-24, 1999. Did they come back later in the spring? Quote
CJ Shearn Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 I loved the club. It was my favorite. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted January 9, 2021 Author Report Posted January 9, 2021 yeah. NYC, like so many other places was hit real hard. Quote
jcam_44 Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 That’s an incredibly long list. I have seen a few new restaurants open in my area and every time I see it, it shocks me that someone makes that move right now. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted July 19, 2021 Author Report Posted July 19, 2021 Well, when one club closes, another one comes along. The Cutting Room in NYC is now hosting jazz. July 18th was George Coleman and The Rhythm Session. Joanne Brackeen is coming up in a few weeks. But I'll still miss the Jazz Standard. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 19, 2021 Report Posted July 19, 2021 Crazy list of places that shut down. Some in Williamsburg I knew well and some of those closed not because of the pandemic, but because of other primary factors. Quote
