SimonHowson Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 The Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Jazz station is doing a survey of the 100 greatest jazz artists of all time. See here: https://www.abc.net.au/jazz/jazz-100/2020/ Voting is open until September 28th, and music by the top 100 will be played on 3rd and 4th of October. ABC Jazz has a live stream here, though I do not know if it is accessible for people outside of Australia: https://www.abc.net.au/jazz/listen-live/player/ Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 Inquiring minds wonder... Will Snarky Puppy hit the top 10? Top 5? #1? (Full disclosure, I’ve never owned any Snarky Puppy releases.) Quote

(Full disclosure, I’ve never owned any Snarky Puppy releases.) I have certainly heard Snarky Puppy on ABC Jazz, but the voting seems to be set up for voting by artists rather than bands. So, for example, you can't vote for Weather Report, but you could vote for Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Jaco Pastorius etc. Quote

I think I logged in with my Google account so I didn't have to set up an abc account. I thought it was a fun (if ultimately pointless) exercise. This is how I voted (in no particular order) : Cecil Taylor Sonny Rollins John Coltrane Miles Davis Andrew Hill Johnny Hodges Thelonious Monk Herbie Nichols Duke Ellington Bobby Hutcherson Mingus and Basie were the hardest cuts for me (but I thought Herbie Nichols deserved at least one vote!). sgcim Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 I filled it out, and had to write-in Eddie Costa, because they left him out of their 'survey'. How dare they! Quote

How dare they! Yeah I had to write in Terence Blanchard which was a bit weird. He is pretty well known, and his work is played on ABC Jazz occasionally. Quote
