Hardbopjazz Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 Anyone have any idea who is the fellow with his arms up in the air? Quote
lipi Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) No, but I can give you some irrelevant information instead. The move the dancer is doing is very likely either a "boogie forward" or an "eagle slide." No guarantee that's what he'd have called it himself at the time, though. (OK, fine, I have possibly relevant info, too, but I assume you already know this: William Claxton took that picture in 1960. The address is printed on the marquee, so location I'll leave to the astute reader.) Edited July 22, 2020 by lipi Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 The jumping guy in the background is not identified in Joachim Ernst Berendt's book JAZZLIFE (p. 223) - where this pic came from - either so he may well remain shrouded in mystery. Quote
Justin V Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 That is a great pic. I think I'd be doing the same thing standing near Cootie. Quote
mikeweil Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) Somehow the mysterious person reminds me of Monk. Edited July 23, 2020 by mikeweil typo Quote

Big Beat Steve Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 I'd bet Berendt would have noticed THAT and indicated it in the photo caption. Quote
