clifford_thornton Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 According to collaborators, the English bassist, composer, and conceptualist Simon H. Fell has passed away at 61. Sad news -- a very individual individual! Quote
Jason Bivins Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 Wow, so young. RIP, sir, and thanks for the music. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 Lost track of him recently but there was a time 20 years ago or so that with some of those odd creative large things he was doing that he had a large effect on my musical life. Way way too young. great bassist and big thinker RIP, Sir Quote
Д.Д. Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 (edited) This is very sad. Love his music - both his unique large-scale works, and his smaller formations (have enjoyed his recent duo with guitarist Richard Compte, "Panazol" greatly, as well as his two great trio groups on the quieter side of the spectrum - ist and VHF). This one is outstanding too: http://www.anothertimbre.com/page50.html (and costs just 5 GBP!). Edited June 28, 2020 by Д.Д. Quote
mjazzg Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 This is horrible news. He always produced thoughtful and challenging music. Quote

Д.Д. Posted July 3, 2020 Report Posted July 3, 2020 (edited) Nice write-up about Simon H. Fell by the frequent collaborator Rhodri Davies - as well as a beautiful solo harp performance (available as a free download) dedicated to Mr. Fell here: https://amplify2020.bandcamp.com/album/for-simon-h-fell?fbclid=IwAR3IhWtSV4dIobrYYjdBYPAG_rPWHZOUDgX-ohUyKn2Y5TPAJDggDP2kVaY Edited September 22, 2020 by Д.Д.
