Pim Posted June 3, 2020 Report Posted June 3, 2020 Yeah I know: it's a rare one. But the 150 euro + on Discogs is a bit too much for me... If anyone here wants to sell for a more reasonable price I'd be happy. Thanks! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 3, 2020 Report Posted June 3, 2020 yeah, took me years to find a nice copy and it was expensive (probably about $100 or more). Good luck. Excellent album. Quote
Clunky Posted June 3, 2020 Report Posted June 3, 2020 Nathan Davis is always so good. It's no wonder his albums are sought after. I'd love to have this one too.... Quote
romualdo Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 found my copy for $10Aus in a second hand record store here in Brisbane Quote

corto maltese Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 For those among us who care about such things: the Discogs entry is not for the first pressing (although these copies are always advertised and sold as originals). The original issue has a "BIEM" label, which also means it was released before 1972. I agree with Clfford about the excellence of the music, but the sound quality is a bit disappointing. Quote
Daniel A Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 I often cannot afford to care, but I am nevertheless interested in these things. If possible, please share your insights regarding the BIEM mark and identification of the year of release (<1972). Quote

I'm not a specialist on copyright matters, but on labels of French releases the legal notice "BIEM" was replaced with "SACEM" somewhere during 1971. This particular concert recording from July 1969 was released by the Edici label to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Summer Jazz Workshop at the Paris American Academy which was founded in 1965. Nathan Davis thaught and performed there from 1965 to 1969. So this album would most probably have been released in 1970. And my copy does indeed have a "BIEM" label; Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 4, 2020 Report Posted June 4, 2020 Interesting; mine has SACEM labels but does have the original gatefold cover (it was later issued in a single sleeve). I would imagine that with Edici not being a very big label some things got shuffled around at the "warehouse"... Quote
