I never heard much of his work but this seems particularly sad considering his more recent acclaim and higher critical profile. RIP.

Tony Allen was the little engine that could.  If you've never spent any time with the work of Fela Kuti, you've missed out on some of the most exciting and energizing playing to be found anywhere.  Allen's relentless drumming was a huge part of the afro-beat sound.

From Blue Note's Facebook feed, I've learned that Allen put out a 4 track EP for them in 2017. I never heard of it until now. It's pretty good too. Only available via download or an out of print LP.
