Justin V Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 Last year, I tracked down Joe Pass and J.J. Johnson's We'll Be Together Again. The combination of guitar and trombone, especially in the hands of two of the greatest, is quite appealing. Are there any other trombone/guitar duos out there? Quote

HutchFan Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) I figured Albert Mangelsdorff would be a trombonist who'd do that sort of thing. I immediately thought of Zo-Ko-Ma, a trio record he made with Attila Zoller and Lee Konitz. ... Almost there but one too many musicians. After some poking around on discogs, I found this: It's a 7" Metronome EP that anticipates Mangelsdorff & Koller's collaboration with Lee Konitz by 11 years. 🙂 Edited April 12, 2020 by HutchFan Quote
jazztrain Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 There are three selections by a duo of George Masso and Bucky Pizzarelli on the George Masso album "Pieces of Eight" (Dreamstreet DR108). I don't have it and, if fact, don't think I've ever heard it. Quote

sgcim Posted April 12, 2020 Report Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) Rob McConnell and Ed Bickert made a duo record called "Mutual Street". Edited April 12, 2020 by sgcim Quote
Д.Д. Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 There are three excellent Mangelsdorff / Scofield tracks (around 20 mins total) on this live release: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Int-Jazzfestival-M%C3%BCnster/release/5063934 . Also, in a more adventurous direction, there was a fantastic two trombones / two guitars quartet (Conrad Bauer, Johannes Bauer, Joe Sachse, Uwe Kropinski) called Doppelmoppel. They had three releases, all are highly recommended: https://www.discogs.com/artist/1840346-DoppelMoppel . And there is indeed a Mangelsdorff / Zoller duo - one track on this album: https://www.discogs.com/Albert-Mangelsdorff-Albert-Mangelsdorff-And-His-Friends/master/334713 Quote
sambrasa Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 (edited) Yes, a nice one here. 3 tracks by Albert and Scofield. Edited April 13, 2020 by sambrasa It was mentioned. Dammit. Quote
gmonahan Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 Frank Rosolino recorded with Ed Bickert in Toronto in the early/mid 70s, but I'm not sure they ever did a duet. Used bass and drums. Still some very nice music. gregmo Quote

clifford_thornton Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 came here to post all of what you and colin mentioned! I have in mind a Rutherford/Bailey or Lewis/Bailey somewhere but not sure if it actually exists as part of Company, Iskra 1903, or some other context. I think there might be something in Günter Christmann's discography as well but I'll have to dig around and look for it. Quote
