Teasing the Korean Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 (edited) In th 1950s, Dave Brubeck lived in a west coast moderne Case Study House. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_Study_Houses Beginning in the 1960s, he was living in a New Canaan moderne house. https://nchistory.org/midcentury-modern-architecture/ Most would be lucky to live in even one of these in one lifetime. But Dave Brubeck lived in both in one lifetime. Edited March 28, 2020 by Teasing the Korean Quote
medjuck Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 Do you know which case study house it was? Quote

Not offhand, but it looked very similar to the Charles and Ray Eames house IIRC. The documentary that was made shortly before he died had great footage of both houses. Quote
JSngry Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 Quincy Jones actually designed one though... Quote

duaneiac Posted March 28, 2020 Report Posted March 28, 2020 The "Wilton Hilton" sure looks like a lovely home. Does any one know if the Brubeck family sold it after Iola passed away? https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/home-decor/a28396899/dave-brubeck-midcentury-connecticut-house/ Quote

I'm sure you now can locate his Oakland house too. I'm going to dinner. Check this out - https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/home-decor/a28396899/dave-brubeck-midcentury-connecticut-house/ Quote

Dmitry Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 We have a Broyhill Brasília bar, looks like from the 60s. It’s pretty cool. Well-made, too. i really enjoyed the pictures of the interiors of the Brubeck house, it looks like a well-thought our living space...but where’s the photo of the actual house? Quote
Brad Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 Wilton is right next to New Canaan; I used to live in the area. Quote
Brad Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 This was back in the mid 80s so a crappy gas powered push kind. Quote
Brad Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 Is that one of those rider ones. We only had half an acre. Quote
Dmitry Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 (edited) I finally found the photo of the facade. Looks all right, kind of underwhelming. Edited March 29, 2020 by Dmitry Quote

Dave Garrett Posted March 29, 2020 Report Posted March 29, 2020 The West Coast house was in Oakland, and doesn't appear to have been an actual Case Study House. Bev Thorne: Brubeck Home Designer Quote
