Any idea who's playing on that track please? [or if you have the album is this info listed within the gatefold?] Thanks! The album I've pictured above is the one with Eternal Egypt Suite. Go to Bandcamp for the full personnel. Quote
RogerF Posted August 3, 2021 Report Posted August 3, 2021 Thanks jlhoots, I had my wires crossed over this one - definitely seeking out Ancestral Echoes now! Quote
djcavanagh Posted September 1, 2021 Report Posted September 1, 2021 This is available at Jazz Messengers (at what looks like an amazing price) for anyone who missed it. I haven't managed to listen to mine yet as I can't access my turntable. Quote

Don’t have a lot of Tapscott in my collection but had my eye on this one. Quote

Cheers Denis - Usually works the other way for me so a rare break. A good week for vinyl, this one. Quote

sidewinder Posted September 1, 2021 Report Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) Thanks Pim. I did see the Arkestra in their home base on one occasion. It turned into their Memorial performance for Tapscott, who died the night before. So - I need to hear some more of this. Edited September 1, 2021 by sidewinder Quote
Guy Berger Posted September 2, 2021 Report Posted September 2, 2021 It’s interesting to contrast the austerity and cold fury of THE DARK TREE with the much more exuberant sound of the large ensembles. Quote
Pim Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 https://www.soundohm.com/product/tapscott-and-winds-lp more Tapscott on the way. Quote

I'm hoping that some copies will make it to the UK retailers as they did with the last one. Quote
jcam_44 Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 That Jesse Sharps LP looks interesting considering it is source directly from the tapes where the cd was supposedly a 4th generation DAT. I’ll have to revisit the cd to see if an upgrade is in order. Quote

Courtesy of the Tapscott estate, it will be releasing on cd later this spring "Horace Tapscott with the Pan African Peoples Arkestra- 'Ancestral Echoes The Covina Sessions, 1976'". These are previously unreleased studio recordings. Liner notes by Steven Isoardi. There are four song titles: "Ancestral Echoes," "Sketches of Drunken Mary," "Jo Annette" and "Eternal Eygpt Suite." Dark Tree will also be releasing "Live at Lama" on vinyl and a new Isoardi book entitled "The Music Finds a Way-A PAPA/UGMAA Oral History of Growing Up in Postwar South Central Los Angeles." No information on the above as yet on Dark Tree's website or Facebook page. New revised edition of Steven Isoardi's The Dark Tree is out. https://www.dukeupress.edu/the-dark-tree I have the original edition, not sure whether to go for this revision. Quote

CD wasn't mentioned on the Duke site, so my instinct (opinion only) is "no", also taking into account the ongoing plethora of Nimbus West releases. Quote
