Dan Gould Posted March 4, 2020 Report Posted March 4, 2020 That Betty James track is awesome. I've always wondered about her, a grand total of six singles (I think)? On the basis of her first two she should have been such a star. Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 4, 2020 Report Posted March 4, 2020 Great playlist and some deep dives to be sure. Happy to see Nellie Lutcher and Tampa Red (among others) putting in appearances. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted March 4, 2020 Report Posted March 4, 2020 Re- Nellie, I'd just as much hail the appearance of bro' JOE Lutcher. Nice set indeed - a lot is and sounds familiar, but quite a few aren't. And he did indeed dig deep. Regardless of all the "grey market" CDs that flooded the reissue scene in the late 90s and early 2000s ("Stompin'", anyone?) and the not quite so grey-marketish on Blue Moon and Classics, for example, this shows that you can dig even deeper and find there still is a LOT of never-reissued R&B out there. And you're not scraping the barrel yet. Quote
Dave Garrett Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 That is a damn fine playlist. Been listening to it for the past couple of days. Thanks for pointing it out. Quote
JSngry Posted March 7, 2020 Author Report Posted March 7, 2020 Rod does an extended playlist like this every week for a radio station in Silver City, NM. Each week has a different theme, so you're pretty much guaranteed to hear music you never knew existed every time out. The guy has probably heard - and knows - more music, cumulatively, than anybody I've ever known. And I don't say that casually. Here's all of them: https://www.mixcloud.com/rostasi/ Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 So this is Rostasi the forum member, then? Quote
